Fuel Relief Fund Is Going To Japan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On March 15, 2011, Fuel Relief Fund’s chairman, Ted Honcharik is traveling to Japan to implement a plan to start delivering fuel.

Upon arrival the plan is to assess the situation, obtain a fuel truck and gasoline, then start delivering fuel. “FUEL will be desperately needed,” says Fuel Relief Fund board member Matt McDonald. “Over 5 million homes are currently reported to be without power and for the foreseeable future generators and fuel will be the lifeblood of large parts of Japan.”

When fuel gets delivered to the affected areas this ensures improved (emergency) transportation.  “Most people recognize that fuel will be needed to improve transportation”, says Honcharik.  “What is not well known, but critical for immediate disaster relief is fuel for generators”.  These generators will provide power for lights and heat, to operate medical equipment and small household appliances, and to charge cell phones and computers. “Twenty gallons of fuel can easily provide light for thousands of people housed in emergency shelters for more than a week. Food, water, shelter and fuel are most needed after a disaster like this strikes.”

Once in Japan, Fuel Relief Fund will meet with government officials and other Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that are providing disaster relief. Together they will decide where the resources should be allocated and how to transport them in the most efficient manner.

Fuel Relief Fund has experience with disaster relief. The organization responded to hurricane Katrina and Rita, and has been instrumental in providing gasoline and diesel to power generators and to fuel vehicles after the earthquake in Haiti.

The day prior to departure Fuel Relief Fund is meeting with officials from the city of Riverside, CA. Community Leaders of the city are meeting with volunteers and aide organizations to determine what kind of assistance they can provide for Japan, especially for their sister city, Sendai.

Sendai is located very near the epicenter of the earthquake and experienced the devastating effects of the tsunami. Fuel Relief Fund, located in Riverside, will support and represent their sister city to the very best of their abilities.

Fuel Relief Fund originated out of a quest to provide a basic fuel source for victims immediately following the devastation of a natural disaster. They are the only non profit organization in the world dedicated to providing fuel for people in need. Fuel Relief Fund and its partners, Cox Petroleum Transport, Environmental Logistics Inc., Pacific Tank Lines and the Leonard Transportation Center at Cal State San Bernardino, continue to look for additional means to increase funding for fuel. The more donations Fuel Relief Fund receives, the more fuel will be delivered to victims. The organization assures that 100% of donations will be used to purchase and transport fuel to victims of the earthquake.
