MAFF Permits Rice Planting in Evacuation Zone/Fukushima City Rice Started Being Served for School Lunch

They also permitted 1200 households to produce rice in Fukushima, Soma, Nihonmatsu and Da-te city, where is 380 ha in total. In 2012, rice planting was not permitted in these areas. They are to serve rice produced in Fukushima city if it’s under 20 Bq/Kg. All the schools will serve local rice by the end of this month. MAFF permits rice planting even in the evacuation zone in order to keep farmers motivated. (cf, MAFF permits rice planting in evacuation zone [Link1]) In early January, 208 Bq/Kg of cesium was measured even from rice produced in Miyagi prefecture. It turned out at least 39 tones of the rice from contaminated farm were already shipped out to the metropolitan area etc..
